Ethiopian small and medium scale farmers produce 90 to 95 per cent of the country's agricultural output. Around 85 per cent of the country's 105 million inhabitants live in rural areas, and inclusive agricultural growth is a major driver of poverty reduction.
Farming is back-breaking labor. Literally. Most farmers in Ethiopia today have very limited access to improved farming equipment or machinery and low access to an improved genetic poultry species and dairy cows, which means they use centuries-old tools, unproductive animal genetics and old wisdoms.
But to be better business men and women farmers need access to a variety of resources, an improved genetics, finance, education and inputs.
